Training drills for touch football are designed to get you in shape as well as improve your basic football fundamentals. While touch football is often played for fun, training drills for touch football can be applied to competitive football games such as tackle football and flag football. Training drills range from quarterback throwing drills to wide receiver catching drills.

Quarterback Knee Drill

The quarterback knee drill is designed to improve your wrist snap and form while throwing the football. Grab a partner and line up 5 yards apart, getting down on both knees before starting the drill. On your coach's mark, throw a pass to your partner, making sure you bring the ball up behind your ear and do not lose your balance while throwing the ball. After 10 throws back and forth, move back an additional 5 yards and repeat the drill. Continue to move back after 10 throws until the drill becomes out of your range.

High Knee Drill

The high knee drill is designed for running backs looking to improve their knee height while running. Grab five bags and place them on the ground in a straight line 5 feet apart from each other. Have a running back stand with a ball a few feet away from the first bag. On your whistle, have him run over the bags at full speed, keeping his knees up and avoiding touching the bags with his feet. Not allowing the runner to touch the bags will force him to keep his knees high ito avoid the bags. Have him look straight down field for the duration of the drill.

Pitch Drill

The pitch drill is designed to help improve your ability to properly catch a pitch. Grab a bunch of cones and place them in a straight line to simulate the offensive line. Have a quarterback stand behind the middle cone with a football in his hand. Place a cone at the position in the backfield where you should be when you receive the pitch. Stand a few feet behind the quarterback and wait for your coach's whistle. On his whistle, run to the pitch cone and try to receive a pitch from your quarterback just as you pass by the cone. Catch the pitch and run five yards down field before stopping.

Over the Shoulder Drill

The over the shoulder drill is designed to improve your ability to catch the ball over the shoulder. Have a coach stand at the 15-yard line with a ball in his hand. Stand 5 to 10 feet to your coach's left in a basic receiver stance. On his mark, run at half speed toward the end zone, looking for a pass on your right side. Have your coach throw the ball in an arc over your left shoulder, forcing you to rotate your body to catch the ball on your left side. Repeat this drill from both sides of the field.
