When trying to build muscle, your efforts cannot be focused just on exercise. Your diet is an equally important part of your fitness regime. Without the proper diet, the body will be unable to perform at optimal levels. While trying to plan the perfect diet, protein is the most important nutrient to include. Our muscles are made of protein and need excess protein in order to repair and grow. There are high protein foods that will help you gain the muscle mass you desire.
Beef
Animal products are full of protein. They have the highest levels of protein of any food. Beef is one of the most highly protein concentrated meats. However, red meat can be high in fat. You should limit your intake of red meat to avoid excess fat consumption
Chicken
Chicken is another meat filled with protein. However, as opposed to red meat, chicken is a lean meat. Therefore, by choosing chicken, you can consume high amounts of protein while avoiding the excess fat that can be found in red meat.
Eggs
Eggs are another good source of protein. One large egg contains about 6g of protein. Eating a few eggs a week can dramatically increase your protein intake. However, eggs do contain a significant amount of fat. The fat is in the egg yolk, so if you only eat the egg white, you still obtain the protein while eliminating extra calories from fat.
Lentils
Include vegetables in your diet. Vegetables can contain large amounts of protein and may be a healthier option than animal products. One cup of lentils has18g of protein and less than 1g of fat.
Beans
Beans are one of the most protein-rich vegetables and also provide vitamins, minerals and fiber. Soybeans are a good choice of protein-rich beans. One cup of soybeans contains up to 29g of protein. By choosing beans, a low-fat protein source, you can get the benefits of protein without the extra fat.
