Oral thrush is a treatable fungal condition that is caused by Candida albicans. Thrush can cause painful, creamy-white lesions in the mouth, loss of taste and an uncomfortable cottony feeling in the mouth. According to Cynthia B. Olsen, author of "Australian Tea Tree Oil Handbook: 101 Plus Ways To Use Tea Tree," you can prepare a tea tree oil gargle to relieve the symptoms of thrush. Tea tree oil has antiseptic and antibacterial properties and is derived from the tea tree. Always consult your doctor before taking any alternative treatment.
Step 1
Add five drops of tea tree oil to a 1 oz. cup of your regular mouthwash.
Step 2
Gargle with the mixture three times a day for two minutes. Thoroughly swish the mixture around your mouth to reach all areas of your mouth. You may experience a temporary tingling or numbing sensation in your mouth and tongue.
Step 3
Spit the mixture out into your sink as soon as you are done. Do not swallow the mixture.
Step 4
Avoid eating foods that contain bread, sugar, yeast, cheese and alcohol while treating thrush. These foods may fuel your thrush infection.
