Herbal Essences is a division of Clairol. They make a variety of hair care products, including shampoos, conditioners and styling aids. Most of the products of Herbal Essences are divided by hair type: "body envy," "break's over," "color me happy," "dangerously straight," "drama clean," "hello hydration," "hydralicious," "long term relationship," "none of your frizziness," "totally twisted" and "tousle me softly." While many of the products share the same ingredients within a product type, there are differences.
Standard Ingredients
All of the Herbal Essences shampoos contain: water, sodium chloride, sodium benzoate, methylchloroisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone. All Herbal Essences conditioners have: water, stearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, edta, methylchloroisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone. Fragrance and color, though different in each line, are in all the shampoos and conditioners.
Additional Ingredients
There are additional ingredients (used in various combinations) in Herbal Essences products. Some of the most commonly used ones in the shampoos are cocoamide mea, glycol distearate, polyquaternium-10, sodium citrate, citric acid and peg-7m. Many of the conditioners contain dimethicone, citric acid and stearamidopropyl dimethylamine.
Fragrance
Ingredients identify Herbal Essences fragrances: "body envy" has nectarine and russelia equisetiformis, "break's over" contains coconut and mango, color euterpe oleracea is in "color me happy," there is honey and pear in "dangerously straight," "drama clean" has strawberry and orange flower, "hello hydration" contains coconut and vanilla, nymphaea odorata and passiflora incarnata are in "hydralicious," raspberry is in "long term relationship," "none of your frizziness" has mandarin orange, "totally twisted" contains lavender and jade and "tousle me softly" has viola and punica.
Color
Different colors identify each product line in Herbal Essences using the following ingredients: "body envy"--yellow 10 and yellow 5; "break's over"--violet 2; "color me happy"--red 33, red 4, yellow 10; "dangerously straight"--red 33; "drama clean"--yellow 10, blue 1; "hello hydration"--blue 1; "hydralicious"--yellow 10, red 30; "long term relationship"--red 33; "none of your frizziness"--yellow 10, red 4, red 33; "totally twisted"--ext violet 2; and "tousle me softly"--blue 1, red 33.
Considerations
There are also leave-in conditioners, shampoo/conditioner combinations, volumizing mousse, hair spray, spray gel, finishing touch cream and scrunching gel within the Herbal Essences lines. The products adhere to similar ingredients and contain the same fragrance and color as the shampoo and conditioner in that line.
