Healthy hair growth begins with your scalp. When your follicles are clogged with oil and product buildup, it can slow down the rate at which your hair grows and maybe even cause it to fall out. Massaging your head before you wash your locks, and applying exfoliating, deep-conditioning treatments can rid your scalp of dead skin and encourage new hair to grow. Check with a health care provider before you add any new products or herbs to your routine. If you are experiencing pain on your scalp or sudden, unexplained hair loss, get medical attention.

Step 1

Place a few drops of essential rosemary oil in your palms and use it to gently massage your scalp. Rosemary can help get rid of excess oil on your scalp, which can clog your follicles. It also helps to stop the growth of any bacteria on your skin and might even replenish hair lost due to a condition such as alopecia areata. Use the pads of your fingers and a circular motion to rub the oil into your scalp for two minutes once a day before washing. This will also break up any buildup and allow it to be washed away more effectively.

Step 2

Rinse the oil off of your hands and get in the shower. Wet your hair and scalp with warm water, then apply a moisturizing shampoo with an ingredient such as avocado oil to nourish your locks and help prevent breakage. Use the same massaging motion you used in Step 1 to gently rub the shampoo into your scalp and throughout your hair. Wash all of the product out to avoid residue and buildup.

Step 3

Squeeze the extra moisture from your hair and do a deep-conditioning and exfoliating treatment once a week. "Allure" magazine suggests combining a conditioner that contains protein and antioxidants with 1 tbsp. of clove oil and 1 tbsp. of almonds, crushed finely. Mix these three things in a small bowl and massage them into your scalp. Allow the mixture to remain in your hair for 20 minutes, then rinse it out with lukewarm water.

Things You'll Need

  • Essential rosemary oil
  • Moisturizing shampoo with avocado oil
  • Conditioner with protein and antioxidants
  • 1 tbsp. clove oil
  • 1 tbsp. almonds, crushed finely
