Dark circles can make you look old and tired, and unfortunately, they may not be easy to get rid of. These types of discolorations are often genetic and result from a pooling of blood beneath your eyes. Furthermore, sun exposure, aging, allergies and exhaustion can all make dark circles look even more prominent. While no product or method will make your dark circles vanish, you can minimize them with certain creams, at-home remedies and proper makeup application. Use these techniques to brighten the area under your eyes and greet the world looking awake and refreshed.
Step 1
Sleep seven to nine hours every night. Fatigue and exhaustion can increase the pooling of blood under your eyes and make dark circles look worse. If you are under a lot of stress or are having trouble sleeping, talk to your doctor to determine what actions you should take.
Step 2
Ask a physician about allergy medications if you are congested or experiencing other symptoms of seasonal allergies. The veins that run from your eyes down to your nose can become darker when your nose is stuffed up, resulting in dark circles. Antihistamines or other allergy-reducing medications may be able to lessen these symptoms.
Step 3
Wash your face when you get up, dry it off, and then apply an eye cream with vitamin K, which Smart Skin Care says may be able to reduce the appearance of dark circles caused by darkened veins or pooling blood. Dot the cream under your eyes and blend it in gently, being careful not to rub your skin, as this can make discolorations look even worse.
Step 4
Apply a sunscreen that is safe for your eye area. Exposure to sun and ultraviolet rays can cause brownish dark circles to form, and protecting your skin from the effects of the environment can help prevent these. Also look for a sunblock that contains botanicals and minerals that promise to brighten your eye area and camouflage discolorations. Use the same dotting and gentle blending technique from Step 3 to apply the sunscreen. Wait five minutes.
Step 5
Apply a yellow- or peach-toned concealer under your eyes, which will neutralize any areas of darkness, says "Cosmopolitan." Put some of the concealer on a small makeup brush and dab it under your eyes, then blend it in. Swipe some translucent face powder on top to help it stay put throughout the day.
