Losing weight is rarely an easy proposition, yet celebrities somehow make it seem as if it is. One day, they've gained weight; the next, it seems they've lost it all, plus some. One of the things that celebrities tend to have at their disposal that the average person does not is money. This allows them to hire chefs, personal trainers, have plastic surgery and undergo expensive cleansing techniques. The jury remains out, however, on whether these weight-loss methods are safe. Consult your doctor before beginning any weight-loss regimen.

Fad Diets

There are a variety of diets celebrities use to lose weight. Some of the more popular ones in recent years include cleansing, raw foods and baby-food diets. In January 2011, the Celebrity Diet Doctor website, run by Dr. Marc Lawrence, called into question the use by model Naomi Campbell of the master cleanse diet and by singer Sarah Harding of the charcoal diet, disputing the programs' usefulness and safety.

Celebrity endorsements of more traditional weight-loss programs, such as Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers and NutriSystem, have also become common.

Personal Trainers

Another way that famous people lose weight is by hiring personal trainers. One well-known trainer is Harley Pasternak, author of the books "5 Factor Diet" and "5 Factor Fitness." According to his 5 Factor website notes, celebrity clients have included Jennifer Hudson, Lady Gaga and Megan Fox. Pasternak has his clients work out 25 minutes a day, five days a week combining stretching, cardiovascular exercise and weight training. Other famous celebrity trainers include Bob Greene, who has worked with Oprah Winfrey, and Mark Blanchard, who has trained Jennifer Aniston.

Plastic Surgery

Depending on how you feel about plastic surgery, celebrities' use of this option to lose weight or look slimmer might either be just part of the business or dangerously excessive. In the book "Beauty Junkies: Inside Our $15 Billion Obsession With Cosmetic Surgery," author Alex Kuczynski notes that actress Kathy Griffin told "People" magazine that, despite suffering potentially fatal complications from liposuction in 1999, she went back into surgery in 2003. Kuczynski adds that liposuction and other surgery techniques have become incredibly lucrative for not only plastic surgeons, but a wide variety of medical professionals, many of whom are not board-certified to perform these types of surgeries.

Colonics

Yet another way celebrities maintain or lose weight is by undergoing colonics, sometimes referred to as hydrotherapy. This process uses water flowing through a large tube and up the rectum to purportedly clean the colon. In "Healing Cancer: The Top 12 Non-Toxic Cancer Treatments to Help You Beat Cancer," author Simon Kelly reports that colonics are used by film stars and celebrities because they know this water therapy supports health and keeps them looking young and beautiful. Some health experts claim that colonics are not useful and may in fact be dangerous, because they can lead to dependence or dehydration.
