Amoxicillin Side Effects

According to the medical experts at eMedTV.com, there is little information available on the side effects that accompany amoxicillin, simply because it is an older drug. Regardless of how few side effects there may be, you should still be aware of them as they may require you to seek immediate attention from your doctor.

Common Side Effects

The most common side effects associated with amoxicillin include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hyperactivity, feeling confused, vaginal yeast infection, dizziness, tooth discoloration and insomnia. These side effects typically go away within a day or two of use; if they do not, contact your doctor.

Serious Side Effects

There are more serious side effects that require immediate medical attention. These include dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of your skin or eyes), pain in the upper right quadrant of your abdomen, seizures, feeling anxious or agitated and thrush, and a yeast infection of the mouth. All of these may be indications of liver damage. Watery or bloody diarrhea can occur both during and after treatment.

Sign of Allergic Reaction

If you are allergic to amoxicillin, you may experience one or all of the following symptoms: swelling of your tongue, lips, mouth or throat, an unexplainable rash, hives, difficulty breathing or a tightening of your chest and wheezing.
