Statistics are almost as big a part of baseball as the game itself. Players have been measured throughout generations by their batting averages, runs batted in and home run totals, among other key statistics. Keeping stats for Little League baseball does not nearly have to be as complicated as being a statistician in the professional ranks. A basic baseball score book gives you all the statistics you need for both the hitters and pitchers on your team.
Step 1
Enter your team's lineup and the lineup of the other team in a durable scorebook designed specifically for Little League, with extra lineup spots for lots of substitutions. Track the results of each play in the column for each inning and in the box for each batter
Step 2
Mark down each ball and strike if stats such as pitch counts and pitch accuracy are important to you.
Step 3
Record hits by writing 1B for single, 2B for double, 3B for triple and HR for home run. Mark outs by circling the player's position number for a catch in the air and hyphenating the player's position number for put outs. For instance, a fly ball out to right field would be recorded as a circled nine, while a ground out from shortstop to the first baseman would read 6-3.
Step 4
List the pitchers in the boxes specifically for pitching stats. Keep a running tally of the game, or after the pitcher exits, recount his performance and fill in the boxes.
Step 5
Tally up the runs, hits and errors for after an inning has ended and fill in the corresponding boxes under the column for that frame.
Step 6
Compile the game stats after all seven Little League innings are completed. Tally the individual and team stats and mark the corresponding boxes on the score sheet.
Step 7
Transfer stats after each game to a computerized statistical program or your own spreadsheet to calculate more advanced statistics such as batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.
