If you are a smoker, you have probably tried to quit before. The American Cancer Society links smoking to cancer, lung disease, strokes and even blindness. According to BookofOdds.com, your chances of quitting are only one in 3.45. To increase your odds, there are many cessation products available. With thousands of years of use in Asian cultures, as well as some scientific backing, it seems that magnet therapy may be able to help.
Steps to Quit for Good
Step 1
The American Heart Association recommends making a list of reasons you want and need to quit. Review the list several times a day while you continue to smoke. The AHA also suggests keeping your cigarette pack wrapped in paper and tied up with rubber bands to make getting to them more time-consuming. Write down the time that you light up and how important the cigarette was to you.
Step 2
Set a "quit date," and write it on your calendar. Continue with your efforts to smoke more mindfully. Do not buy more cigarettes until you have finished your pack during this phase. Try to go longer without smoking before lighting up and only smoke the cigarettes that seem most important.
Step 3
Begin wearing your magnets. Place them on your left ear for two to four hours per day. Use the map provided with your magnet to place it correctly in your upper left ear. The device uses acupressure to release the same endorphins that smoking releases. This will supposedly reduce your cravings for cigarettes over the course of several days.
Step 4
On your "quit date," approximately one week after you begin wearing your magnets, stop smoking completely. Any time cravings return, you can begin wearing your magnets again to relieve cravings.
Step 5
Throw out all your smoking paraphernalia like ashtrays and lighters. Find substitutions for cigarettes like gum or hard candy to keep your mouth busy. Stay active and avoid triggers.
