The Shimano M300 is produced in the Deore XT line of components and accessories for road and mountain bikes. The M300 consists of a dual headlamp for night riding and a cycle computer that provides information regarding speed, time and overall distance traveled. The M300 seems suited for those doing prescribed workouts that include night riding or participating in rally events where time and distance calculations are essential.
Lights
The Shimano M300 features dual headlights in a single casing that includes a platform for the cycling computer. Lamps may be white LED or halogen bulb and detachable lenses allow for changing the lamps. The M300 mounts to the handlebars and clamp screws allow adjusting the angle of illumination.
Computers
Shimano cycle computers display on-demand information. Dual-mode computers offer interface information associated with numerous aspects of cycling. Cadence, trip time, average speed and distance covered are a few of the interface options provided by the M300 cycle computer.
Hubs
Shimano Dynamo hubs provide the power for M300 lights and cycle computers. As the hub turns, an internal magnet rotates around the core of a generator, producing current. The hub reaches maximum output at approximately 3 mph and maintains maximum power until the bike stops. Shimano makes several models of Dynamo front hubs that are compatible with disc brake and traditional spoke wheel hubs.
Installation
Detailed installation instructions and illustrations are provided with the Shimano M300 dual headlight and cycle computer. Instructions for adapting the dynamo unit to wheel hubs are provided as well. Typically, modifications to the bicycle should not be needed in order to install M300 components on standard production bicycles.
