Kettle potato chips are an all-natural alternative to many other chip options. Kettle potato chips are free of artificial colors and flavorings, do not contain preservatives, use only non-GMO (genetically-modified organisms) ingredients and are trans fat-free. Although they are nutritionally a better option than many other chips, they are still a high-fat food and a concentrated source of calories. For that reason, Kettle chips are best enjoyed in moderation.
Original Potato Chips
Kettle's regular potato chips are available in a wide variety of flavors. The nutritional profile of each flavor is largely the same, providing 150 calories and 9 g fat per 1-oz. serving, or 13 chips. Of the 9 g total fat, 1 g comes from saturated fat, 1 g from polyunsaturated fat and 7 g from monounsaturated fat. Unsaturated fats may help reduce cholesterol levels when used in place of saturated fats. The one major difference between flavors is the sodium content. The Sea Salt flavor, for instance, has 115 mg sodium per serving. The lowest sodium option is the Unsalted flavor, which has just 5 mg per serving. The highest sodium option is the Sea Salt & Vinegar flavor, which has 210 mg per serving. Excessive sodium intake may contribute to high blood pressure, which is a good reason to choose a low-sodium flavor.
Krinkle Cut Chips
Kettle's Krinkle Cut Chips are nutritionally very similar to their original chips. The most significant difference is that it takes just 9 chips instead of 13 to equal a 1-oz. serving. Each 1-oz. serving provides the same 150 calories and 9 g fat as the original chips. The Salt & Fresh Ground Pepper is the single exception, providing 140 calories per servings. The sodium content of the Krinkle Cut chips is similar to the original chips and varies depending on the flavor.
Organic Chips
Kettle's organic potato chips provide the same nutritional values as the original potato chips, but use only organic ingredients. The organic chips are made from organic potatoes, organic safflower and sunflower oils, and a variety of organic flavorings. Because of the limited availability of organic ingredients, Kettle only offers three flavors of organic chips --- Chipotle Barbeque, Salt & Fresh Ground Pepper, and Sea Salt.
Baked Chips
Kettle's baked chips contain 65 percent less fat than the original chips, and consequentially are also lower in calories. Each 1-oz. serving is about 20 chips and contains 120 calories and 3 g fat. The fat content is provided by 0.5 g saturated fat, 0.5 g polyunsaturated fat and 2 g monounsaturated fat. The sodium content of the baked chips is about the same as the other chips. For instance, the Sea Salt flavor provides 135 mg sodium per serving.
