Grilled foods can offer a huge health benefit over fried foods. The American Heart Association says that fried foods are leading to obesity, high cholesterol levels and heart disease. Fried foods from restaurants are especially unhealthy because some places reheat and reuse oil for many hours, which can cause its molecules to become less stable. Grilled food, on the other hand, uses minimal oil and does not reuse oil.
Organic Meat
Organic meat is healthiest when its fat is removed and it is cooked grilled or cooked with minimal oil. The World Cancer Research Fund states that meat, especially red meat contains a high amount of saturated fat, which clogs your arteries and leads to hypertension and heart disease. Eat red meat with high-fiber foods like steamed artichoke, baked or grilled sweet potato or brown rice.
Onions and Turmeric
The "Dr. Oz Show" discusses how onions and turmeric, when combined in a meal, offer cancer-reducing elements. Grill onions as a side dish or as a base to flavor other dishes. Spice them using turmeric, a mild, yellow spice. The University of Maryland says that test tube and animal studies show its active element, curcumin, may help prevent, control or kill cancers, such as prostate, colon, breast and skin cancer. It is an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant.
Carrots
Carrots and other orange beta-carotene-carrying vegetables like sweet potatoes are extra-healthy when they are heated. Grilling tends to first cook the outside, which allows you to remove the food before it fully cooks, if you enjoy your carrots slightly crunchy or raw in the middle. Keep the carrots whole or slice them lengthwise and place them on the grill across the spaces so they don't fall through the grill's metal slats.
Organic Corn
Organic corn is almost a must if you wish to avoid genetically modified or GM foods. The United States Department of Agriculture has restricted the use of genetically modified seed in USDA certified organic corn. To grill this corn, leave it in its husk and simply place it on the grill. The husk will help retain its moisture.
