Curves International has become the fastest growing franchise in the United States. It was developed in 1995 with a simple, popular concept -- a women-only fitness club that features hydraulic weight equipment with recovery stations between each machine. Each woman spends 30 seconds on each resistance machine then 30 seconds on the recovery station. This cycle is repeated for a total of 30 minutes for a full body strength and cardio workout. The routine is simple and each person can control the intensity of their workout and burn up to 500 calories in a single workout.
Step 1
Focus on the workout instead of conversing with other members. According to the American Council on Exercise, the Curves workout involves a lot of socializing. To burn 500 calories, you must invest all of your energy on each station.
Step 2
Exert most of your effort on the resistance machines. You must get as many repetitions in the 30 seconds on each machine as possible. If you do this, you should be exhausted by the time you reach the next recovery station.
Step 3
Use moderate intensity on the recovery stations to burn 500 calories at the end of the workout. You have worked your muscles to exhaustion at the end of each interval, and you can reduce the intensity slightly for the recovery station.
Step 4
Mix up your cardio on the recovery stations. Running in place, jumping jacks, cardio punches, twists and go-go dancing moves are a few moves you can utilize to keep your heart rate elevated and increase calorie burn.
Step 5
Incorporate fun, lively activity between resistance training machines. According to Texas A&M University, the aerobic, Latin dance workout called Zumba can help add variety to the Curves program. They found in 2010 that Zumba improved compliance and dedication to the Curves workout.
