Participation in the Army ROTC program requires passing the Army physical fitness test, or APFT. The APFT assesses your fitness level in three events that test strength, endurance and will power, and scores your body composition. The Army study guide states that candidates must score a minimum of 60 points in each event. The events are scaled by converting the number of repetitions performed during sit-ups and push-ups and your run time into points based on age and sex.

Push-Ups

ROTC soldiers have two minutes to complete as many push-ups as possible. According to Norwich University's Army ROTC information, females 17 to 21 must perform 19 or more push-ups to pass. Females 22 to 26 must do 17 or more. Males 17 to 21 must do 42 and males 22 to 26 have to do 40 or more.

Sit-ups

During the Army fitness test, ROTC soldiers have two minutes to perform as many sit-ups as they can. Norwich University reports that males and females 17 to 21 must perform 53 or more sit-ups to pass the test. Both males and females 22 to 26 must do 50 or more sit-ups.

2-Mile Run

The University of Missouri's ROTC program's 2-mile standard score translator reports that females 17 to 21 must run 18:54 or faster to pass. Females 22 to 26 must run 19:36 or faster. Males 17 to 21 must run 15:54 or faster and males 22 to 26 have to run 16:36 or faster.

Body Composition Standards

Beyond physical fitness assessments, ROTC members must meet body composition standards. Males 17 to 21 may not exceed 20 percent body fat and females in the same age group may not have a body fat of more than 30 percent. Adult males 22 to 26 may not be have a body fat percentage of more than 22 percent. Females 22 to 26 may not have a body fat percentage of more than 32 percent. Weight requirements are relative to height. For example a 17 year old 6 foot male must be between 131 and 190 lbs with a body fat percentage of 20 percent or less.
