Football related games for the gym are designed to help kids stay active and physically fit while in the confines of a gym. While variations of touch football can be played indoors, other football related games for the gym are designed to improve a specific technique or part of your football playing ability.

Wall Football

Wall football is a football variation of pin the tail on the donkey. Grab a large piece of poster board and cut out three 20-inch strips at a thickness of 2 inches. Using either tape or pins, stick these strips together to make football goal posts on the gym wall. Grab a piece of cardboard and have the kids in your class cut out 5-inch long football shapes. Have each player stick a piece of tape to the back of his football and write his name on his own football. From here, choose one child to go first and place a blindfold on him. Spin him around several times and have him try to place the football in between the uprights. Each player who gets the ball between the uprights gets three points. Play several rounds, giving the player with the most points a prize.

Indoor Flag Football

Indoor flag football is designed to help improve your passing, throwing, and flag pulling abilities. Divide a group of kids up into two even teams. Place cones on each side of the gym to indicate the two goal lines. Flip a coin to see who gets the ball first. Each team gets four downs to score a touchdown. A play is stopped once the player with the ball gets her flags pulled. Each team gets seven points for a touchdown. No kicking of field goals is allowed in indoor flag football. Before the start of the game, choose a time limit or scoring maximum that you will play to. The team with the highest score or the first team to score the required amount of touchdowns wins.

Run for a TD

Run for a touchdown will improve children's kicking as well as their kick returning abilities. Grab four kicking tees and place them at the end of the east side of the gym. Have a player stand behind each tee while four additional players line up on the other side of the gym to catch the ball. On your whistle, have the four players behind the tees place balls on the tees and kick them towards the other end of the gym. Have the players on the other side of the gym catch the balls and try and run to the other side of the gym without being tagged. If a player makes it to the other side of the gym without being tagged, he scores a touchdown.

Stationary Partner Throw

Stationary partner throw is a football related throwing game designed to improve your passing as well as your catching abilities. Grab a partner and stand a few feet away from each other with a foam football in your hands. Throw the ball in a spiral towards your partner. After she catches it, have her throw the ball back to you. Count the number of consecutive catches you both make, starting over if anyone drops a pass. As you improve, increase the distance between you and your partner.
