Basketball hoops usually come with the net detached from the hoop, but attaching the two isn't difficult at all. The parts used to attach the net may be a part of the rim or a separate addition. Even if those parts are missing, constructing improvised connections is very simple.
Step 1
Check the rim for pre-installed hooks. If you don't see any, look at the parts it came with for clips or S-hooks, which are, as the name suggests, S-shaped hooks. If you still don't see these, look at the net to see if it has a hook-and-loop closure lining.
Step 2
Stretch the net out gently. Lay it flat on a table and arrange it so that it's not crumpled up and both ends are untangled.
Step 3
Find the bigger end of the net.
Step 4
Grab one of the loops on the bigger end of the net and hook it over one of the S-hooks or pre-installed hooks on the inside of the rim, if that's what you see. Some models have lids on the opening of the hook that you have to push back. If you see clips, clip the top of the loop instead, or attach the hook-and-loop strips together if the borders of both the net and rim have this type of lining.
Step 5
Count how many loops are in the top row of the biggest end of the net, if you don't see any of the closures from Step 4.
Step 6
Place a corresponding number of S-hooks around the rim. If you see metal loops on the underside of the rim, stick the S-hooks through those. Home improvement and hardware stores sell various sizes of S-hooks.
Step 7
Hook the net on all the S-hooks.
Tips and Warnings
- Try to pinch the ends of the S-hooks closed to further secure the net if the hooks are metal.
