Good Diet Meals

Sticking to a diet is hard to do if you have very limited food choices or are forced to eat foods that you may not like. In order for a diet to be successful, you have to incorporate your new eating habits as a lifestyle change. You can still have flavorful foods while dieting; you just have to know how to spot the right choices.

Breakfast

Your breakfast should be filling and satisfying. You can make an omelet stuffed with tomatoes, green or red peppers, onion and chives served with a slice of whole wheat toast topped with peanut butter and bananas with 1 cup of low-fat milk. If you're not into omelets, you can have two slices of turkey bacon, a slice of whole wheat bread topped with your favorite fruit spread, apple slices and a glass of orange juice. If you're in a hurry and need a quick breakfast you can have whole grain cereal or oatmeal topped with any type of berry, a banana and slice of whole wheat toast and 1 cup of low-fat milk.

Lunch

You can be a little more creative when it comes to making lunch and dinner. You can opt for a chicken fajita topped with lettuce, tomato and onion served with a side of brown rice and steamed green beans. If you're dining out, you can choose a restaurant with a salad bar and pile on all of your favorite toppings, such as cucumber, tomato, onion, carrots, strawberry, oranges, broccoli, cauliflower, raisins, sunflower seeds and egg, topped with a low-fat or fat-free dressing and a glass of water or juice. If you like to take your lunch to work, you can prepare it at home and make either tuna salad or egg salad sandwiches or wraps, as long as they're whole wheat, and have rinsed veggies such as carrot sticks, apple slices, grapes or fresh broccoli as a side dish.

Snack

Nobody wants a boring snack; pack snacks full of flavor and choose healthy, filling options, so you're not tempted to stray from your diet. Pack cheese and crackers or pop 1 cup of popcorn and season it with a little garlic or popcorn seasoning that's salt-free, or make homemade tortilla corn chips and salsa or hummus dip.

Dinner

Make a family night out of making homemade veggie pizza; the options are endless. You can make 1 cup of whole wheat pasta with fresh tomato sauce served with freshly steamed vegetables and a bottle of mineral water. Grilled herring with lemon juice and a hint of pepper served with a small baked potato is another option. If it's a cold, gloomy day, make a pot of vegetable, lentil or black bean soup; avoid adding salt if at all possible.
