EA provides sports game play for anyone with an Internet connection, but players must purchase a $10 pass for access to the game. Massively Multiplayer Online is another online sports game that charges a fee. A wide variety of companies offer free sports game play online.
Physical Action Sports Games
Another type of sports action game combines physical activity, or exercise, into the game. Various video game manufacturers have developed sports games that players engage in physical activity that mimics the sport. Players use special controllers that follow physical movement in real time. The player's movement is translated to action on the TV screen. For example, in a boxing match, the player would use the controller to follow their hands, which appear as boxing gloves on the TV screen. As the player punches, moves and ducks, the cartoon figure on the TV screen moves in tandem with their physical movements. These games can be played with multiple players or played against a computer-generated opponent that responds to the player.
Sports Game Ratings
Kids love playing video games. Some video games have extreme violence and language that parents may not feel is acceptable for their children to watch. Sports games are rated from G, PG, Teen and Teen with age ratings. Young children should play games rated G or PG if you intend to play the game together. The Entertainment Software Rating Board does not rate online multi-player gaming, notes the Parents Television Council. It advisable to check to the game rating to make sure your children are playing family video games.
