Calcium is an important mineral that your body uses to make the material that keeps bones and teeth strong. Step 1
Check the nutrition label on the side of the bottle for the percentage of your recommended daily allowance of calcium in the milk. Vitamins and minerals are given in terms of their percentage of the recommended daily allowance, or RDA, that they contain. This information is typically toward the bottom of the nutrition label, the Food and Drug Administration notes. This information will be given in terms of the percent RDA of calcium per serving.
Step 2
Divide the percent RDA for the calcium by 100. This will be needed to calculate the actual quantity of calcium in the bottle of milk.
Step 3
Multiply the number from Step 3 by 1,000. The RDA of calcium for adults is 1,000mg, the Office of Dietary Supplements explains. The percentages listed on nutrition labels for vitamins and minerals are based on the RDA values for adults, though the actual amount of calcium you need can vary depending on your age, gender and other factors. This will give the amount of calcium in one serving of milk in terms of milligrams.
Step 4
Multiply the amount of calcium in one serving by the number of servings contained in the bottle. This will give you the total calcium contained in the entire bottle.
