Indian food is best known for its spiciness. Of the spices used, several have medicinal qualities. Some of the ingredients in Indian food have fat burning capabilities. As with any new weight loss program, please consult your doctor first.

Curry Leaves

Curry leaves are dark green in color and grow on shrubs native to India. They are often used to flavor cooked vegetables, curries, salads, and chutneys. Curry leaves help the stomach and intestines function properly, which can aid in weight loss. Curry leaves have also been used to treat diabetes, dysentery, and diarrhea.

Dhal

Dhal refers to beans, lentils, and dried peas. Dhal is traditionally served in India with rice and chapati, or Indian bread. Dhal has a high protein content that will aid in energy and strength in the body. Dhal has an astringent quality that aids in the breakdown of excessive fat gathered in the bodily tissue. Dhal is also a stimulating food, which increases digestive fire in the body.

Coriander

Coriander is a natural diuretic, which can aid in weight loss. Coriander is a dried seed with aromatic qualities that stimulate digestion. Coriander is also used for treatment of rashes, hives and dermatitis. Coriander is also useful to purify the blood and to reduce gas.

Ginger Root

Ginger root is heating, cleansing, toning, and stimulating which can make it useful for weight loss. You may eat it alone or add it to dishes for a unique spicy flavor. Ginger has also been used to treat digestive problems, muscular pains and constipation.
