Maruchan is a manufacturer of Asian Ramen noodles, consisting of thin wheat flour noodles pressed into a block and baked, then packaged with a small packet of instant broth powder. The noodles are heated in water with flavored powder to make a quick and inexpensive noodle soup. Maruchan Ramen noodles are good source of calories from carbohydrates and fats, though this dish is frequently high in dietary sodium.

Components

One serving of Ramen noodles weighs around 494 grams. The majority of the serving consists of 422 grams of water. Carbohydrates provide 190 grams of that serving, while fats weigh in at 12 grams, and proteins make up a little under 8 grams. Other nutrients make up the remainder.

Calories

The USDA also notes that the same serving of Ramen noodles contains around 325 calories, which equals just over 16 percent of the recommended daily intake of calories for the average person. Carbohydrates deliver 190 of those calories. Fats offer about 105 calories and proteins contribute about 30 calories within the serving.

Vitamins

Maruchan Ramen noodles provides some important vitamins in significant amounts. These include thiamin at 0.06 milligrams or 50 percent of the recommended daily intake, folate that 84 micrograms or just over 20 percent, niacin at 2.7 milligrams or about 18 percent, and riboflavin at 0.17 milligrams or 13 percent of the RDI. Other smaller amounts of vitamins include vitamins B6, B12, K and folate.

Minerals

Several important dietary minerals are also included within a serving of Ramen noodles. Iron is the highest at 3 milligrams or 30 percent of the RDI. Other minerals found in Ramen noodles include selenium at 7.4 micrograms or just over 13 percent and phosphorus at 89 milligrams or a little will under 13 percent of the RDI. Lesser amounts of calcium, magnesium, potassium and zinc are also present within the serving.

Health Concern

Ramen noodles are typically high in sodium, which can raise the risk of high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke. One serving of Ramen noodles contains 1,541 milligrams of sodium or over 100 percent of the total recommended intake per day. For individuals following a low-sodium diet, Maruchan also makes lower sodium versions of their products.
