Any weight-loss venture should incorporate exercise, both cardio and resistance training. You can use traditional forms of exercise, forms of cardio or a combination of the two to lose weight. Find a workout that is enjoyable to you and that you are able to perform for at least 30 to 45 minutes daily, five days a week.
Jogging
Jogging is one of the most popular workouts for weight loss. It can be done indoors or outdoors and does not require a gym membership. You can also change the location where you run to keep from getting bored. Use a treadmill one day, run at the park the next day, then do a brisk walk around your neighborhood.
Dancing
Dancing has become a popular workout program since there are so many forms of dance. If you like jazz dance, try jazzercise. Hip-hop lovers can take hip-hop dance classes at the gym or at a studio, and ballroom dance lovers have access to plenty of DVDs to learn the basics. Zumba is dance workout that is set to Latin-flavored music and provides a cardio workout. Most dance exercise programs are designed to give you a full-body workout that is not repetitive like traditional methods.
Circuit Training
Circuit training incorporates a cardio and strength workout in one. Some gyms set machines up so that you can maneuver easily from one to the next in a short time frame. You may spend a minute working your upper body on a resistance machine, then a minute jogging in place, then working your lower body on a resistance machine. Then repeat the cycle. Circuit training provides a full-body workout in a short time frame, usually 30 to 45 minutes.
Jumping Rope
Jumping rope is a simple exercise that does not require any special equipment except a jump rope and a little space. You work your upper and lower body, strengthen your respiratory system, elevate heart rate and burn plenty of calories in a short time frame. You can easily interval train by jumping rope as fast as you can for a minute, then rest a minute. Do this for 20 to 30 minutes for optimum weight loss.
