Yoga Teacher Training for Women

Most yoga teacher training course programs found throughout the United States and abroad are open to both women and men students. There are a few programs that do specialize in training women exclusively. To become a yoga teacher, you must attend a training program that is certified by the Yoga Alliance and receive 200 hours of yoga training. The Yoga Alliance has set certain standards and guidelines so a holistic and knowledgeable understanding of a yoga can be mastered.

Yoga Alliance Guidelines

To become a certified yoga teacher, you need 100 hours of training and practice of physical postures, or asanas, along with pranayamas, or control of breathwork. Chanting mantras, practicing meditation and other traditional yogic practices may also be included. Teaching methodology and practice needs to be done for 25 hours. Anatomy and physiology should comprise 20 hours and 30 hours for yoga lifestyle and ethics. Practicing teaching yoga should be done for 10 hours along with 15 hours devoted to related electives. The 55 remaining hours is up to each individual yoga school and their emphasis. These hours total the 200 hours needed to become a certified teacher.

Herizen Yoga Training

The Herizen Yoga Teacher Training Program for Women has yoga training camps in Baja, Mexico and Vancouver Island, Canada. The organization also offers yoga retreats and spiritual eco-adventure journeys for women across the world, including in India, Belize and the Caribbean. The program focuses on women issues and needs, as well as qigong, pranayama, puja, ayurveda for women, dance and sound healing. The yoga teacher program is a 12-day intensive where women will learn self mastery in an Ashtanga influenced style of practice.

Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training

Sara Avant Stover, a yoga teacher based out of Colorado who teaches frequently in Thailand, is also the founder/director of The Way of the Happy Woman. She specialized in yoga retreats and trainings for women. She also teachers a prenatal yoga teacher training that helps yoga teachers become specialized in leading classes for pregnant women. This program focuses on educating and empowering women through out their pregnancy, as well as how to care for their babies.

OM Yoga for Women Cancer Survivors Teacher Training

The Kripalu organization offers a special teacher training for women cancer survivors. It is a unique 45-hour training for yoga teachers who are already certified. Classes are taught to help students strengthen and heal lymph system and relieve fatigue. The program also teaches how to provide emotional support for your students and hands on assistance. To attend this program, you will have needed to taught yoga for at least two years.
