Tennis tournaments are an excellent way to support the sport of tennis, brining individuals from all different skill levels together to compete. Once you have set up a tournament with draws, locations and possible USTA sanctions, you need to run the tournament. This consists of managing players and schedules to ensure proper tournament execution. Having a good tournament set up is only part of the equation. Running the tournament is often overlooked, which can lead to poor competition.
Step 1
Set up the tournament courts and facilities with necessary chairs, water stations, bathrooms facilities, scheduling areas and tournament desk before players arrive. The tournament desk should have all necessary information for players and scheduling.
Step 2
Check in players as they arrive to the tournament, notifying them of the schedule, format and any additional information they may need. Collect their entry fee, if necessary, and provide them with any balls, T-shirts or gifts that are included with their entry fee.
Step 3
Put players on the court on time according to the schedule and allowing for warm-ups. Use a centrally located clock in order to keep all matches on time.
Step 4
Record scores as players finish their matches, notifying winning teams of their next matches and losing teams of any possible consolation matches.
Step 5
Cycle new players onto the court quickly to ensure that the tournament remains on schedule.
