A vitamin-rich, well-balanced diet is important for your body health, including your breath. Halitosis is the medical term for bad breath that may lead to anxiety and humiliation in many people. Certain health conditions, foods and personal habits may contribute to the development of halitosis. You may be able to help relieve, control or treat this condition with the use of specific vitamins.

Vitamin C

Many people with halitosis have been found to be vitamin C deficient, so increasing your intake of this vitamin may be helpful in preventing or treating bad breath. This vitamin is an antioxidant and can help protect your body from harmful bacteria and viruses that can lead to infection or illness. By providing you with increased immunity, you may be better able to fight infection or conditions such as bad breath. Vitamin E

Vitamin E may play a beneficial role in the treatment of gum disease, a condition in which bad breath is one symptom. This vitamin acts as an antioxidant that can protect your body from cellular damage and infection. It improves your immune system so you can fight off infections and prevent further illness. You can obtain this vitamin in spinach, almonds, nut butters, avocado, olive oil and egg yolks. You also can find it as a supplement.

Maintaining A Vitamin-Rich Diet

Consuming a healthy diet that is rich in vitamins can be important for your breath and your overall health. MayoClinic.com suggests that including nutrient-rich foods in your diet, such as fiber-filled foods, may help alleviate your bad breath. Vegetables and fruits are good sources of fiber that are rich in several vitamins, including vitamin A, B, C and D. Aim to consume a healthy diet to maintain healthy gums, teeth and fresh breath.
