If losing weight came easy, everyone would do it. In fact, losing weight is not easy, and keeping it off once you lose it is harder even still. The weight-loss industry continues to grow every year thanks to those people looking for the newest fad that they have yet to try. The reality is there are just so many ways to lose weight, and the formula to success has never altered. A lifestyle of healthy eating along with moderate exercise will help you lose the weight and keep it off for a lifetime.

Drink Enough Water

Water needs to be your drink of the day beginning after breakfast. Drinking water, especially before a meal, leaves the stomach feeling full, meaning you will eat less. Drinking water in place of soda or other high-calorie beverages will save you hundreds of calories daily. "Reader's Digest" reports the average American consumes 245 calories from soda each day.

Eat Less More Often

"Readers Digest" reports a study conducted in South Africa in 1999 that found men rationing their breakfast throughout a five-hour period in the morning had 30-percent fewer calories for lunch than men in the study group eating their breakfast in a single sitting. The idea is to spread your calories throughout the day into five or six smaller meals to keep your tummy full. Those eating only two or three meals throughout the day tended to overeat because they are hungry.

Eat Fruit and Vegetables

Eat more fruits and vegetables as a safe, healthy and effective way to lose weight and maintain your loses. Many vegetables and fruits are low in fat and calories and fill you up. Using fruits and vegetables as a substitute for more calorie-dense ingredients is one way of reducing your calorie intake throughout the day while saving on calories. One example is cutting your cereal portion and adding slices of banana, strawberry or other fruit favorites.

Eat Fat Burners

"Women's Health" magazine reports fiber is the most important ingredient to losing weight. Fiber, after all, keeps you feeling full and snacking less. Raspberries, followed closely by blackberries, provide some of the best sources of fiber, containing 8 g and 7.4 g per cup, respectively.

Exercise

Cardiovascular exercise is tied to increasing your body's metabolism and burning fat. Get 20 to 45 minutes of cardiovascular exercise at least four to five times per week. This can be walking, running, swimming or any other activity you enjoy. Add basic calisthenics, such as pushups, sit-ups, jumping jacks and lunges, two to three times a week to complete your fat-burning routine.
