How to Lose Weight Juicing

You may have seen countless infomercials and demonstrations that tout the effectiveness of juicing at home in order to lose weight. The claims are that drinking juice in place of some of your meals can keep your caloric intake low, while helping you to lose weight and still supplying your body with optimum nutrition. Science seems to agree, as a study published in a 2006 Journal of Medicinal Food found that those who drank grapefruit juice lost more weight than those taking a placebo.

Step 1

Gather some fruit and vegetable favorites so that you have good stock to juice from when you need it. If you don't have the right ingredients, changes are that you'll be more tempted to fall off of the wagon and justify it away. Keep your refrigerator well stocked with high juice content foods like apples, oranges, watermelon, spinach, carrots and celery.

Step 2

Exchange your usual breakfast for a freshly made glass of juice. To make it more substantial as a breakfast, juice your fruits, add a small helping of vegetables that won't interfere with the flavor, and then add a small container of your favorite yogurt. This will help give you added protein so that you stay fuller longer so you aren't tempted to snack, even though you've had a relatively low calorie breakfast.

Step 3

Begin your usual lunch with a large glass of fresh juice. If you usually eat lunch at work, prepare the juice first and bring it in a thermos to keep it cold. Make a conscious effort to add more vegetables in the lunch juice for added fiber. If you still don't like the taste, use flavorful fruit like watermelon to help mask the flavor of the vegetables. Eat a small lunch afterward, like a half of a turkey sandwich on whole wheat, or apple slices and peanut butter.

Step 4

Eat a sensible dinner that is low calorie and packed with protein. A grilled piece of fish and green salad will help facilitate weight loss, as it keeps your calorie count down, but allows you necessary nutrients. If you are hungry after dinner, try snacking on something light, like low-fat cheese and crackers, or a fruit smoothie made with ice and yogurt.

Tips and Warnings

  • Speak to your health care provider about this type of diet plan. Losing weight with juicing gives your diet extra fiber, which can sometimes lead to bloating and digestion discomfort.
