In 2006, the Dallas-Fort Worth-based news station reported on two Texas natives, Blake Sylvia and Jeff Schmidt, who lost 70 and 50 pounds, respectively, using a simple weight loss program called the Water Diet. The Water Diet isn't truly a diet in the strictest definition of the word--it doesn't restrict caloric intake or suggest portion sizes, nor does it restrict types of food that can be consumed. Although there are several variations of the Water Diet circulating on the Internet, all work using the same weigh loss principle: they fill dieters up with water, which discourages them from eating too much. The Water Diet is a simple diet, costing dieters nothing. This makes it accessible to anyone who aspires to lose weight without counting calories.

Tips and Warnings
- Regardless if you're on a Water Diet, the American Dietetic Association's Complete Food and Nutrition Guide advises drinking 10 cups of water daily to replace the fluid that your body loses. One variation of the Water Diet advises dieters to drink cool water, rather than warm water or iced water.
- The Water Diet can have undesirable side-effects, such as bloating and frequent trips to the bathroom.
