Swim caps are available in a few different materials such as latex, lycra and silicone. Swimmers often have different reasons for wanting to wear a cap, including keeping chlorine out of hair, extra speed for racing or keeping long hair out of the face. To be effective for any purpose, make sure that your swim cap fits your head properly.
Step 1
Choose the correct size. Smaller caps fit children and those with short hair, while a cap for long hair may be a couple of inches longer.
Step 2
Slide your hands inside the cap and interlock your fingers at the top. Pull your fingers apart to stretch the cap open, and slide the front over your forehead.
Step 3
Stretch the cap back over the rest of your head and pull it down snugly. Tuck in any loose hair and pull the cap down completely if it hasn't formed a good seal.
Tips and Warnings
- Stop halfway when pulling the cap and tuck your hair inside if you have long hair.
