Helping people lose weight can provide a sense of job satisfaction. If you are interested in health and fitness, this may be a good career choice for you. However, as with other job fields, it can be difficult to get hired if you do not have experience. Some weight loss careers can offer good opportunities to start at the entry level.

Exercise Instructor

You may be able to lead exercise classes as an entry-level instructor. Being able to show that you can perform the exercises yourself and motivate students may enable you to get hired even without a degree in exercise science or kinesiology.

Diet Coach

A diet coach can help people learn how to improve their eating habits. Although education is needed to become a certified nutritionist, you may be able to work at a health club as a diet coach. You can provide examples of healthier diets and encourage customers to change their choices.

Support Group Leader

Weight loss support groups often employ leaders who have been successful in losing weight themselves. To qualify for these positions, you usually need to have lost weight using the method you are promoting, such as Weight Watchers.

Personal Trainer

Personal trainers help people get in shape and learn how to exercise most effectively for weight loss. Associations such as the National Academy of Sports Medicine and American Fitness Professionals and Associates offer certification programs in personal training. This credential may enable you to work at an entry level in health clubs and gyms, where you can gain experience.
