"The Abs Diet" was developed by Men's Health editor David Zinczenko. This diet is a six-week program designed specifically for men and promises to flatten your stomach, improve your overall health and sex life. The diet follows the principals of eating 12 power foods: almonds or nuts, beans or legumes, spinach or other green leafy veggies, low-fat or fat-free dairy, instant oatmeal, eggs, turkey or lean meat, peanut butter, olive oil, whole grains, whey protein and berries. The author provides an exercise program that includes cardio and strength training as a part of the overall weight loss and weight control plan.

Step 1

Eat six small meals a day to keep your energy level high and your metabolism revved. Space meals a few hours apart and portion sizes should fit in the palm of your hand.

Step 2

Drink a whey protein smoothie for breakfast. Blend whey protein with fresh berries, low- or non-fat milk and ice for a quick, high-protein energy breakfast.

Step 3

Eat 10 nuts, such as almonds, for a mid-morning snack to help burn-belly fat.

Step 4

Combine a lean protein with a complex carbohydrate for a satisfying low-calorie, high-energy lunch. Choose lean proteins such as chicken, fish or turkey and complex carbohydrates such as oatmeal or whole grain pasta or bread.

Step 5

Eat a fresh fruit or vegetable for a mid-afternoon snack.

Step 6

Eat a dinner with protein, complex carbs and essential fatty acids. Choose lean proteins such as tuna, eggs, fish, turkey, chicken or lean beef and combine with complex carbs such as fresh vegetables, wild or brown rice, whole grain pasta or bread. Add essential fatty acids such as olive oil, nuts or seeds to the meal.

Step 7

Eat a low- or non-fat dairy snack, such as Greek yogurt with berries, one to two hours after your dinner meal.

Tips and Warnings

  • Do 30 to 60 minutes of exercise daily. Drink plenty of water. Avoid sugars and alcohol.
