Prenatal vitamins such as Prenate DHA help supply your body with needed folic acid, iron, minerals, vitamins and docosahexaenoic acid during your pregnancy, Drugs.com says. This vitamin helps ensure that the nutrition your baby needs will occur outside of your daily nutritional focus in your diet. Prenate DHA may produce some non-serious side effects, as do other prenatal vitamins.

Constipation

An uncomfortable side effect associated with most prenatal vitamins is constipation. Constipation occurs as difficulty to impose a bowel movement, Drugs.com says. You may help alleviate this by ingesting extra fluids and daily salads. Call your doctor if your constipation continues a couple of days after you started adding increased constipation prevention measures to your diet.

Diarrhea

Drugs.com says that diarrhea is a potential side effect of using Prenate DHA. Having to go to the bathroom several times more than usual, especially when cramps precede it, has an effect on daily activities. The worry of needing to have a bathroom nearby can be bothersome, especially if you still have this side effect after a few days. Call your practitioner if this happens.

Nausea and Vomiting

Usually, taking your prenatal vitamin with food can help to prevent nausea and vomiting. You may need to vomit from time to time because of morning sickness. You may also be inclined to feel sick if you avoid taking your vitamin with food. When you're pregnant, your stomach remains more sensitive. Finding ways to stop the irritation, such as eating with the vitamins, can help. Prenatal vitamins contain iron and folic acid, which are irritating to the lining of your stomach. By having food in your stomach, you can avoid this. The food helps buffer the negative irritating effects of the vitamin and you can feel better.

Dark Stools

According to Drugs.com, your stools may appear discolored, usually darker than normal, when you begin using Prenate DHA. Although this may trouble you, it classifies as a non-serious side effect and should dissipate as you use them more. Your stools become richer with increased intake of the iron and folic acid contained within Prenate DHA.
