Getting fit as a teen will help make your life healthier as you get older. When you lose weight, it decreases your risk for health problems, keeps you feeling good and opens the door to new hobbies and activities. Weight loss can be achieved by simply moving more and eating less.

Move More

The more you move, the more calories you will burn. Keeping the body moving does not have to be boring. In fact, getting fit can be a social outing. Hitting the gym with friends or going for a run can help make losing weight more fun. Activities like running, hiking, swimming, taking a dance class or even taking a kickboxing class are a fast way to shed pounds. Cardio train five days a week for 30 minutes. Set two days a week to do traditional strength training.

Move Smarter

Interval training is a fast way to lose weight. Interval train three days a week. It burns more calories than traditional cardio because it uses both the aerobic and the anaerobic energy systems. Interval training uses short bursts of intensity followed by a recovery period. Choose any activity you would like and set intervals to reach your weight loss goals. For example, if you are running with a friend, run at a moderate pace for two minutes, and then sprint for 30 seconds. Repeat this interval for 30 minutes.

Circuit Train

Circuit training is a great way to use the entire body to break a sweat. Circuit train two days a week on the days you do traditional cardio. Circuit training uses body weighted exercises to strengthen the body while keeping the body moving. Moving from one exercise to the next is the key in circuit training. There is no need to go to the gym to circuit train. Complete each exercise continuously until you completed one round. Then recover for two minutes and complete the circuit two more times. Try a circuit that includes all body parts like 15 squats, 15 jumping jacks, 10 pushups, 10 lunges on each leg, 10 burpees and 20 sit-ups.

Eat Right

The food you put in your body will fuel your workouts. Eat healthy foods because it will help keep your body performing during your exercise as well as keep you seeing results. Choose foods that are high in nutrients. Whole grains, lean meats, fresh fruits and vegetables are all healthy choices. Eliminate the amount of foods that are processed and are empty calories. Foods like cookies, cakes, chips and fast food should be eaten rarely.
