A certified Zumba instructor receives her training from classes sponsored by the Zumba Acadamy. This Latin-dance-inspired fitness program holds instructor training classes across the U.S. Zumba offers instructor certification at a basic and advanced level. Courses in specialty classes such as Aqua Zumba are also available to qualified students.

Basic One

Complete a Zumba Basic 1 instructor certification to learn the foundation and formula required to teach a Zumba class. Acquire training in cumbia, meringue, reggaeton and salsa steps and get the skills you need to put the steps together for your class. No prerequisites are necessary. Participants earn a one-year basic Zumba license.

Zumba Basic 2

Develop belly dance, flamenco, samba and tango dance steps when you take a Zumba Basic 2 instructor certification course. This curriculum focuses on advanced choreography techniques and enhancing your professional skills. Finish the course and earn a one-year basic Zumba license. You must currently hold another Zumba instructor certificate before signing up for this class.

Jump Start Gold

Earn your Jump Start Gold instructor certification and teach Zumba classes to active older adults. Learn the anatomy, physiology and psychology required to address the needs of this population. Participants acquire the skills to create classes for individuals new to fitness. No prerequisite required. Upon completion of this certificate, you receive a one-year basic Zumba license and a Zumba Gold license. The Zumba Gold class reinforces and expands on the skills and information required to formulate fun and safe classes for active older adults. You also learn the skills to teach a seated Zumba workout.

Zumba Toning

The Zumba Toning instructor's certification class is a specialty course for members of the Zumba Instructor Network. Learn to combine body-sculpting techniques with Zumba dance moves to create a safe and effective strength training class. Train with and learn to use weighted maracas called Zumba Toning Sticks, which help to enhance rhythm in your class and target common problem areas such as the upper arms.

Aqua Zumba

To participate in the Aqua Zumba instructor's course you must be a member of the Zumba Intructor's Network and an Aquatic Exercises Association certification is recommended. This class teaches you how to create a "pool party" workout for students of all ages. Acquire the skills and techniques to integrate the Zumba formula and philosophy into safe and challenging aquatic workouts.
