A Teeter hangup is a device in which the patient hangs from her feet on a comfortable platform for several minutes. This method of relaxation is called inversion therapy. Inversion therapy is used to treat stress, increase oxygen flow to the brain, improve lymph flow and reduce back pain. Teeter is a brand name for an inversion table. Use of these devices is awkward at first, but it becomes easier to use after the patient becomes more comfortable with the mechanics of the machine.
Step 1
Adjust the roller hinge according to your weight. The hinge is located on the main handle frame on the side of the Teeter table. For beginners, set the hinge at "A" if you weigh 80 to 120 lb. Set the hinge at "B" if you weigh 120 to 220 lb., and set it to "C" if you weigh 220 to 300 lb.
Step 2
Adjust the table to fit your height. The height adjustment is at the bottom of the table, and it cushions your head when you flip over upside down.
Step 3
Attach the tether strap in the back of the table. The tether strap is mainly for beginners. It controls the angle of the inversion table, so it does not cause you to go completely upside down on your first use of the machine.
Step 4
Place the ankle clips on your feet. These clips have bars that wrap around the inversion bar. This area is where you hang from the table, so ensure that the clips are securely placed on the bars.
Step 5
Use the handle to flip yourself upside down. If the tether strap is not attached, you will turn completely upside down. If it's attached, you will only flip at an angle. Once the table is inverted, relax and allow your back to stretch.
Step 6
Use the handle to pull yourself back to a normal, upright position when finished. Remove the clips from your feet. Store the inversion table in a safe location to avoid damage and injury during the next use.
