Healthy adults should get at least two hours and 30 minutes of physical activity each week. Many can't seem to fulfill that requirement, however. Any number of excuses can stop you from getting the aerobic exercise you need. You can remedy common excuses that involve money, time and ability with the right attitude.
Busy Schedules
With work and family and carpool and making dinner, it can sometimes seem like there aren't enough hours in the day to fit in your to-do list, much less aerobic workouts. When you feel as though you work from sunup to sundown, you may feel tired and stressed. But getting adequate exercise each day can help you feel more energized and happier, so consider treating exercise like an important appointment. This helps you make exercise a part of your daily schedule that you can't miss.
Boredom
A general dislike for exercising can make an aerobic workout seem stale and torturous. When you're bored with your workout, it's no wonder you start to drop it in favor of the things that you enjoy. But aerobics do not have to be a formal class setting or running on a treadmill. Find an activity that raises your heart rate and that you actually like, like dancing, swimming or biking. This can help prevent boredom and make aerobic exercise a more enjoyable experience for you.
Age and Other Limitations
You may mistakenly think that if you're of an advanced age or have an injury that you can't participate in aerobic activities and exercise. Instead of making assumptions about your abilities, speak to your doctor and ask him about types of exercise you can try. You may be surprised to find that there's a myriad of aerobic activities achievable with your condition. What's more, aerobic exercise can help keep your body in shape so you feel younger, and it can help rehabilitate certain injuries. Just talk to your doctor or physical therapist beforehand for safe ideas.
Lack of Money
Gym and health club memberships can be expensive, so it's understandable if you feel as though fees aren't in your budget. But don't allow a lack of money to leave you sitting at home on the couch. You can perform a variety of aerobic exercise activities with little or no money at all. Consider walking: you just need a pair of supportive running shoes and a sidewalk to enjoy the health benefits of an aerobic workout. Hiking is free as well, as is borrowing aerobics DVDs from your library.
