A lot of fad diets involve taking supplements or weight loss pills that suppress appetite and change how the body digests fat. However, many of these pills can cause unhealthy side effects and shouldn't be taken for any great length of time. To achieve sustainable and long-lasting weight loss without pills, you just need to make a few changes to how you eat and exercise.
Step 1
Make drinking at least eight glasses of water a day a priority. Start your day with a glass of water and incorporate a glass with each meal. You may also wish to drink a glass before bedtime. Water flushes your system of toxins, helps the body expel waste and speeds up the processing of fats.
Step 2
Quit drinking sodas and other drinks filled with empty calories. Flavored coffee drinks and alcohol are also suspect. These beverages are filled with calories, sugar and fat and offer no nutritional content and will delay your weight loss efforts.
Step 3
Separate your usual three meals a day into six smaller meals. Plan out your meals to include small portions of lean proteins, greens and whole grains. By eating more often throughout the day, you will keep your body energized and prevent overeating.
Step 4
Strengthen your body as a whole by doing Pilates, yoga, kickboxing or some other activity. Any exercise that combines aerobic and strengthening aspects is ideal because it will help you burn calories and tone your muscles at the same time. Once the pounds come off, you'll want a svelte figure, and that's what toning can do for you.
Step 5
Get your heart rate up everyday through cardiovascular exercise. Running, biking and swimming are all excellent exercises because they work your entire body and burn calories. When combined with a healthy diet, you will burn fat and experience weight loss.
