Mavic is a recognized name in bicycle parts manufacturing. The French company makes high-quality wheels for track, road and mountain bikes. Many of Mavic's wheels feature durable and lightweight carbon spokes and rims. A distinct Mavic technology is the lacing of spokes, which cuts down the number of spoke ends from four to two. Spokes are also molded to the rim, eliminating the need to drill holes.
Front Wheel
Step 1
Set the bicycle on the work stand. Release the brake levers. If the bike features a caliper, push it to the open position to disengage the mechanism. The caliper is located on the outside of the brake.
Step 2
Remove the old wheel and insert the Mavic wheel, mounting the tines of the wheel's axle into the bicycle's fork brackets.
Step 3
Position the brake pads so that they correspond with the rim of the wheel. For mountain bikes, ensure the brake pads are properly fitted to the calipers.
Step 4
Fasten the quick release lever at the center of the Mavic wheel to the right to secure the wheel to the fork mount.
Step 5
Engage the brakes to test the brake pad alignment. Adjust the tightness or looseness of the brake pads by turning the brake adjuster barrel located on the shift lever.
Rear Wheel
Step 1
Fasten the gear cassette cluster on to the center of the Mavic wheel by screwing it on its right-hand side. Release the brakes and remove the old wheel.
Step 2
Fit the tines of the Mavic wheel axle into the rear fork mounts. Position the rear derailleur over the gear cassette and thread the gear chain onto the cassette.
Step 3
Fasten the quick release lever at the center of the Mavic wheel to the right to secure the wheel to the fork mount. Align the brake pads with the rim of the wheel.
Step 4
Rotate the pedals with one hand and shift gears with the other hand to feed the chain over the gear cassette. Ensure the chain transitions smoothly over every gear. Shift the chain on to the largest gear wheel of the cassette.
Step 5
Engage the brakes to test the brake pad alignment. Adjust the tightness or looseness of the brake pads by turning the brake adjuster barrel located on the shift lever.
Tips and Warnings
- Mavic wheels come with preinstalled spokes. Many of Mavic's wheels feature carbon spokes that are molded to the wheel's rim. Do not attempt to remove these spokes.
- Ensure the quick-release lever is fully closed when fastening the wheel to the fork. One way to check this is to confirm that the lever lies on a straight plane and not on an angle.
