Powder Blue Productions is a fitness company that developed its business around dance-like exercises classes, created by fitness professional Chalene Johnson. Turbo Kick, PiYo, and Hip Hop Hustle are the three formats available to prospective instructors. More than 35,000 instructors have spawned from Powder Blue, making Turbo Kick one of the highest attended classes in gyms nationwide. Before becoming certified, determine which format you'd like to learn, and prepare yourself for an intense day-long bout of exercising and learning.

Formats

Turbo Kick combines choreographed kickboxing and dance moves set to high-energy music. The class promises a high-intensity workout that hits your body with a strong cardio, strength and endurance routine. PiYo focuses more on core and strength training, but it also promises a choreographed, energetic and challenging class. Hip Hop Hustle combines more high energy music with choreographed dance moves and a strong emphasis on offering a great cardiovascular workout. The three formats are offered as an instructor training or a PRO training. Both trainings go through the same instruction, but the instructor training ends with a written and practical quiz, leaving you with a Record of Completion.

Instructor Training

All trainings are only one day for eight hours. If you decide to take the PRO training, it is only six hours. Each training focuses heavily on correct form and technique so you are better able to teach your students how to get the most out of their own class. Powder Blue classes focus on creating fun workouts in party atmospheres. Becoming certified will teach you how to break out of your shell and become the leader of a class, which isn't always the easiest role to step into.

Benefits

After becoming certified, you have the ability to teach a registered Turbo Kick class, or trademarked Hip Hop Hustle or PiYo. You may then purchase lessons and rounds that are applicable to your format, which include music, a choreography DVD and choreography notes. Being certified gives you 20 percent off lessons or rounds and 10 percent off Turbo Wear products. If you are certified through ACE or AFAA, you will receive continuing education credits

Cost

As of January 2011, the regular rate for Turbo Kick, PiYo, and Hip Hop Hustle Instructor Trainings is $229. PRO trainings are $195. They offer an early-bird special, where registering more than two weeks prior to the training knocks off $40. If you need to dust off your memory and take a refresher course, you are offered a slot at a discount rate of $99. AceFitness.org also offers registration slots and refresher courses that last two hours. Not all courses are offered in all states, so be sure to check your area on TurboKick.net or AceFitness.org for upcoming trainings.
