Standard pedometers need to be attached to your clothes or carried while you exercise. Gmaps pedometers eliminate the need for this by allowing you to map out your route before or after you leave home. Gmaps pedometer software allows you to place your route on a Google map data and determine the distance you travel and the calories you burn.
Step 1
Visit the GMaps Pedometer website and enter the starting address or search for the location on the map (see Resources). These are Google maps, so any address that is available on a Google map is available on this page.
Step 2
Set your desired options. GMaps Pedometer allows you to calculate for runners, cyclists and straight lines, such as running across a park or open space. The site also enables you to turn on land topography or elevation and calculate calories burned.
Step 3
Click on "start recording" and then double click your starting location on the map to plot your beginning location. Then double click your final destination to plot the end of your trip. You can also select "complete there and back route" to complete a round trip calculation. After you have plotted the start and finish locations, the GMaps Pedometer calculates the distance traveled and calories burned during that workout.
