Exercising while on vacation might seem strange if you are not committed to your own physical fitness. However, exercise and fitness junkies dread the feelings, both mental and physical, of missing workouts. Resting while vacationing does not mean ignoring your body. The travel business realizes just how important fitness amenities have become for travelers, and exercise images are included in many advertising campaigns.

Walking

When it comes to exercise, nothing is simpler than walking. Walking, while on vacation, counts as exercise, especially on days when sightseeing tours are on the itinerary. Walking with urgency instead of strolling increases the cardio value. Bringing a pedometer along will help you track your steps taken and calories burned throughout the sightseeing day, according to a CBS News article. The Walking Site recommends a goal of 10,000 steps daily, which according to the site, is equal to about five miles.

Frisbee

Playing with a Frisbee is a fun way to get the whole family moving, whether at the beach or a park. According to experts, the larger Frisbees not only fly further, but also add intensity to the workout because of the added weight. Games such as Frisbee golf or football add variety to the fun.

Hotel Gyms

If fitness is your thing, you will most likely check out the fitness-related amenities available at any hotel you are considering. Many hotels offer full or partial gyms for their guests' use. If your hotel lacks on-site fitness opportunities, ask the front desk or concierge to offer a suggestion close by. If all else fails, working out in your room is an option; do push-ups and sit-ups or travel with resistance bands.

Personal Fitness Gear

According to Living Life Boomer Style, make sure fitness accoutrements are among the first items you pack -- and one of the first you remove from the suitcase upon your arrival. Rather than putting your fitness gear away in the closet or drawers, leave it out, plainly visible, so the out-of-sight, out-of-mind syndrome does not have a chance to take hold. Bring along supplements, healthy snacks, vitamins, and other nutritional necessities vital to the success of your workouts.

Conclusion

Advanced planning is the key to staying on track with your physical fitness. While on vacation, take a break from all the things in life that wear down your mind and body, such as work and traffic---but not your physical fitness.
