In 1933, Bill Braum was still attending a Kansas State grade school when he began helping out at his father's butter and milk processing plant. In 1940, ice cream was added to the products the plant processed. Several years later the family sold the wholesale part of the business, and ice cream sales became its main focus. The company developed a chain of ice cream retail stores called "Peter Pan." After the sale of Peter Pan, Bill Braum began a new chain of retail stores in 1968, called "Braum's Ice Cream and Dairy Stores." Today, Braum's has more than 280 stores in Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas.
