Having to urinate often can interfere with daily activities and can occur for various reasons. According to the Mayo Clinic, infections, injury, certain cancer treatments and medications or drinks can all impact frequency of urination. There are medications available, but some individuals find that herbs are effective in relieving this condition. Before using herbs to treat frequent urination, consult your health-care provider to make sure it is safe for you to do so.

Step 1

Take 160mg of saw palmetto twice a day if you are a man and your frequent urination is caused by enlargement of the prostate gland. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, saw palmetto can reduce symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia, including frequent urination. The tablets should be fat-soluble saw palmetto extract with 85 to 95 percent fatty acids and sterols.

Step 2

Buy uva ursi, either in capsules or dried leaves. If you buy the leaves, you can make tea, but capsules may be easier. The University of Maryland Medical Center recommends taking 2 to 4g a day. According to Drugs.com, this herb has been effective in treating urinary tract infections, which often cause frequent urges to urinate.

Step 3

Take cranberry capsules or drink cranberry juice. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine states that not only has cranberry been used in the past for urinary disorders, but it also may help prevent and treat urinary tract infections.

Step 4

Take cornsilk capsules or extract. Cornsilk has been used to treat urinary infections as well as frequent urination caused by bladder irritation. Botanical.com says that this herb can be used to treat acute and chronic cystitis, which may cause frequent urination.
