Given the current obesity epidemic in the United States, many are now working toward weight loss, and calorie counting often plays an important role in the process. It is now easier to determine how many calories different foods contain by using Internet sites that provide nutritional information. These sites are a helpful weight-loss tool.

LIVESTRONG's MyPlate

LIVESTRONG's MyPlate contains several tools to help you stay on track with weight and nutrient goals. In terms of determining calorie counts of foods, it is possible to enter the food consumed to view a list of matching foods with the corresponding nutrition information. Here, you are able to view the calories and nutrients in the food in question. In addition, you may keep track of all the foods consumed during the day to determine the total number of calories consumed.

USDA National Nutrient Database

The United States Department of Agriculture National Nutrient Database allows you to input the food consumed and view the calories and nutrients contained in that food. Upon inputting the food, you're able to select from an extensive list of possibilities with nutrition information. This database is the foundation for most food and nutrition databases in the US, and is also used in research and nutrition monitoring.

CalorieKing

CalorieKing provides nutrition data for over 50,000 foods. The main page of the food search contains a useful list of commonly consumed foods divided into various categories. You can compare foods via a feature that allows you to view both nutrition labels side by side -- a useful tool in selecting the foods with desirable caloric and nutrient content.

Calorie Count

Calorie Count features a database of 126,000 foods with calorie and nutrient information. You can determine the number of calories needed to achieve your goal weight. Input your height and activity level, and the site provides the number of calories you need daily to achieve the target weight by a certain date.
