Viagra & Lovastatin Side Effects

Viagra is a medication in a class of drugs used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. Lovastatin is a statin drug, which is used for the treatment of high cholesterol in both men and women. You may be prescribed one or both of these medications by your physician. There are some side effects associated with these medications that you should be aware of.

Viagra Common Side Effects

If you are taking Viagra, you may experience certain common side effects. You may experience warmth or redness in the face or chest, headache, stuffy nose, nausea, memory problems and back pain while taking this medication. These side effects may subside after your body has some time to adjust to this medication. If these side effects persist and become severe you should consult your healthcare provider prior to taking another dose of Viagra.

Serious Side Effects of Viagra

In rare cases, patients have experienced severe side effects while taking this medication. Sudden vision loss, ringing in your ears, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, swelling of your lower extremities, or a painful erection lasting more than four hours can occur. These side effects require immediate medical attention.

Lovastatin Common Side Effects

You may experience headache, nausea, diarrhea, heartburn, indigestion and constipation while taking Lovastatin. These side effects may be temporary and diminish over time as your body has time to adjust to daily treatment with Lovastatin. However, if these side effects become severe they should be brought to the attention of your physician.

Serious Side Effects of Lovastatin

You may experience a severe side effect from taking lovastatin. If you develop fever, bladder pain, cough, dark cola-colored urine, joint pain and muscle pain you should contact your health care provider before taking another dose of this medication. In severe cases, lovastatin may cause a serious illness known as rhabdomyolysis, which over time can lead to kidney failure. Signs and symptoms of rhabdomyolysis include muscle weakness and discomfort, difficulty with urination and lower back or side pain.
