Influenza, better known as the flu, is a disease caused by viruses that attack the immune system. Symptoms of the flu are much like that of the common cold, including runny nose, fever, sore throat and cough. Treatments for the flu are many, but there are other ways to combat it, one of which is garlic. Garlic has been known for its antibacterial, anti-fungal and antiseptic properties since ancient times and is a common folk remedy for fighting the flu. Ingesting garlic can be challenging, but taking it in the form of a tea with a few extra, beneficial ingredients will make garlic more desirable to the palate.

Step 1

Peel three garlic cloves and cut them in half. Pour 3 cups of water in a saucepan and add the garlic pieces. Bring this to a boil.

Step 2

Remove the pan from the heat as soon as the water begins to boil. Add the honey and lemon juice to the pan and stir.

Step 3

Strain the drink into a cup and discard the garlic and any pulp from the juice. Drink 1/2 cup of this drink three times daily until symptoms reside. First thing in the morning on an empty stomach is a good time to have the first cup. The garlic, lemon juice and honey's antimicrobial, anti-fungal and antiseptic properties combined will serve as a weapon for fighting the flu.

Things You'll Need

  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 3 cups water
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
