All protein diets are eating plans that restrict the number of carbohydrates that you consume. Instead, you will get your daily caloric intake through protein sources and fats. A diet rich in carbohydrates can cause weight gain due to the likelihood that the person will consume more calories since carbs can make you feel hungry. Remember to speak to your doctor before trying to lose weight through an all protein diet.
Step 1
Remove all carbs from your diet. Carbs can be found in breads, rice, cereals, potatoes, vegetables, sauces, and fruits. In many high protein diets, like Atkins, during the initial stages, you are only allowed 20 net carbs a day.
Step 2
Stock up on lean proteins for your diet. The main concern with all protein diets is that they can be high in saturated fat. A high fat diet can put a person at risk for heart disease and high cholesterol. Instead, eat lean proteins, like egg whites, tofu, skinless chicken, turkey breast and fish.
Step 3
Consume healthy fats. If you want to lose weight and still stay heart healthy on an all protein diet, choose unsaturated fat sources, like olive oil, canola oil, seeds, and nuts.
Step 4
Use protein supplements if necessary. Another way to lose weight on an all protein diet is to eat protein meal bars for snacks and protein shakes for beverages. These items can satisfy your hunger while limiting carb intake.
Step 5
Make time to exercise. A sedentary lifestyle will make it difficult for you to drop the weight on an all protein eating plan. Since the protein can help your energy level, try to workout at least an hour per day. Aerobic activities, like running, rowing, cycling, jumping rope, and cycling can help you lose weight.
