Pros & Cons of Enzyte

Enzyte is a supplement marketed by Berkeley Premium Nutraceuticals that claims to help men enhance their sexual encounters by providing better performance and more stimulation. Claims and reviews about this supplement are mixed, but there are some concrete pros and cons to taking this type of supplement that should be weighed carefully before choosing to take Enzyte.

Pro: Natural Ingredients

Enzyte is made with several ingredients that are common to male enhancement products. These ingredients are natural and are used as herbal aids, but none has been scientifically proven. Even still, those who prefer natural remedies and supplements can rely on Enzyte, as it contains no medications whatsoever.

Con: Not Evaluated by the FDA

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulates medications heavily but does not regulate or evaluate supplements for their effectiveness and safety. This means that Enzyte has never been evaluated by the FDA, and all of the claims made by commercials and testimonials have not been evaluated by the FDA. When taking Enzyte, you do not have the protection of an FDA evaluation to let you know if the drug is safe and effective.

Pro: Mild Side Effects

While reviews on the actual effectiveness of Enzyte are fairly mixed, other side effects to taking the supplement are mild. The main ingredient of Enzyte is Yohimbe bark extract, an herb commonly used as an aphrodisiac. This is the ingredient that can cause mild side effects like headache, nausea and anxiety.

Con: No Research

The effectiveness of Enzyte has never been researched in lab or clinical trials. This not only means that any claims made about its effectiveness are unsubstantiated, but there have been no clinical trials on possible long-term side effects. In fact, the Federal Trade Commission fined the makers of Enzyte for making claims on its effectiveness without having done any research.

Pro: Placebo Effect

While the actual effectiveness of Enzyte has never been researched in an official clinical trial, a placebo effect might work to make users feel like Enzyte is more effective than it actually is. Those suffering from low male libido may have an increase in libido if they believe they are taking a supplement to increase it.

Con: Not for Erectile Dysfunction

While the commercials for Enzyte show a man going from a lackluster sex life to one that is full and satisfying, the commercial neglects to mention that Enzyte is not used to treat erectile dysfunction. The FTC notes that Enzyte should only be marketed as a supplement that can be used to stimulate arousal. Erectile dysfunction is a serious medical condition, and will likely need medical attention to treat it. Herbal supplement like Enzyte cannot treat erectile dysfunction.
