1. Histamine Blocker
Allegra is prescribed for the treatment of seasonal allergies, hives and itchy skin. It is an antihistamine. The immune system in the body produces histamine to combat allergens and other irritants. Too much histamine causes nasal congestion, itchy, watery eyes and sneezing. Fexofenadine hydrochloride is the generic name for Allegra.
2. Playing with Others
It comes in Allegra and Allegra D. It's usually taken once a day, which makes it convenient for young children. It lasts for 12 or 24 hours depending on your prescription. Both are non-drowsy and you can drive after taking them. Possible interactions are asthma medications, diet pills, medications for high blood pressure and erythromycin.
3. Choices, Choices, Choices
Allegra is available in tablet, capsule or liquid form. The oral suspension or liquid form is suitable for ages two through eleven. Ages six and up can take the tablet and capsule forms. Drink a full glass of water with your tablet. The liquid form has to be shaken and measured out using a measuring spoon. There are orally disintegrating tablets. These come in blister packs and you should take them on an empty stomach. Make sure your hands are dry before opening the packet. Take the tablet from the pack and put it in your mouth. It starts to dissolve instantly. Do not chew or swallow the tablet. Drink water if you need something to help the pill go down. Swallow as the tablet dissolves. Store the various forms of Allegra at room temperature and keep the blister packs dry.
